Sydney and Melbourne respectively are the largest two Australian cities. Due to this fact, they are also amongst the most visited of all the Australian locations.
Many international tourists visiting Australia will therefore want to include both cities in their travel itinerary. What many people do not realise, however, that as is the case throughout this enormous country, the distance between these cities is huge, around 598 miles by road. This is especially the case when you compare the relatively short distances between UK destinations.
This is why most Australians and visitors alike choose to fly between these two cities. As a welcome alternative to a nine hour drive, the flight will take on average of around one and a half hours. There are a large number of operators offering flights to Melbourne at very competitive prices.
It is often therefore both more cost and time effective for locals and visitors to choose this method of travel between these two major Australian cities.
Choosing to fly between the cities will allow you more time at your destination to explore, without the welcome relief of not feeling so tired after driving for most of the day.
