When Best to Head to The Gold Coast

Flights to the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia are a surfers paradise!Flights to the Gold Coast can put you right at the heart of all the action in one of the largest and best-known cities in Australia. Named for the brilliantly coloured golden beaches that stretch along its border, Gold Coast, which is in Queensland, features first-class golf courses, sophisticated restaurants, exotic theme parks, pampering spas, cultural venues and upscale bars and clubs. Surfer’s Paradise is a great place to see some of the world’s top surfers in action or simply relax and enjoy your surroundings. Whether you are looking forward to a busy holiday spent soaking in the surfer culture of Gold Coast or an active outdoor adventure in one of the area’s many World Heritage-listed national parks, such as Main Range, Lamington and Nightcap, Gold Coast has a little something for everyone.

The sun shines on Gold Coast an average of 300 days every year, and the weather tends to be warm and pleasant regardless of the season. Winter nights tend to cool down enough to require a light jacket or sweater, and winter mornings can be crisp and bright. Summers are much warmer, sunnier and even livelier. Although there is really no bad time to visit this warm, summery playground, many people prefer visiting at specific times of year so that they can attend one of the many events taking place here. Festivals, celebrations and sporting events clog the calendar and give visitors plenty of options from which to choose. Time your visit based on your own personal schedule, or visit a favorite event for an opportunity to socialize and have some fun.

Not all of the capital cities fly to Gold Coast, but it is still quite easily accessible to travellers. Flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Cairns, Newcastle, Hobart and Canberra fly into Gold Coast several times a day. Auckland, N.Z. also has several daily flights into Gold Coast. The airport sees more than 50 incoming flights a day and roughly that many departing flights on airlines such as Jetstar, Tiger Airways, Virgin Australia, Qantas, Emirates and Air New Zealand.

Nearly 11 million people flock to the vibrantly beautiful Gold Coast every year. Surfer’s Paradise may well be one of the country’s most iconic beaches with a glittering skyline and thriving cultural scene. The beach is just half an hour from the airport and has diverse accommodations, exciting attractions, 24-hour dining, cosy pubs and lively clubs.

Shoppers can lose themselves in any of the 14 different arcades and shopping centres, all of which are open late to accommodate daytime beach goers. The beachfront markets have 120 stalls featuring locally produced art, ethnic foods, baked goods, jewellery, fashion, home wares, crafts, accessories and personal care products.

Trekking into the hinterlands offers an entirely different experience. Scenic bushwalks, ancient Antarctic beech trees, native wildlife, lush rainforests, volcanic remnants, incredible lookouts and rushing waterfalls offer hours of peaceful pleasure and visual stimulation.

Spend a free day taking a road trip to Brisbane, Queensland’s capital, where you can go bridge-climbing or cruising down the Brisbane River. Nearby Fraser Island is a World-Heritage listed site and the largest sand islands in the world. Sandy roads stretch through brightly coloured sand cliffs, mirrored lakes and ancient rainforests, and history takes over at the Maheno shipwreck. Turtles, wallabies, kangaroos and humpback whales can all be seen here.
